The Egyptological Society of Malta was founded by Mrs. Helen Foster. In response to her original letter, which was published in the Times of Malta, the first meeting was held in November 2003. The first meeting was attended by Helen Foster, her husband, Peter Foster, Dr. Anton Mifsud, Geraldine Camilleri, Joe Falzon, Dr. Louis Vella and Dayna Farrugia (see photo below).

,

The meetings that followed saw the arrival of Annette Haber, Marco Griscti, Marta Farrugia, Rosman Attard, Dr Kenneth Lucas and Josephine Falzon. Many of the meetings take place at Anton's place and he has introduced the Society to Joe Attard Tabone, an archaeologist and Andrew Rudgeley who is an anthropologist.

Our latest members include, Josephine Falzon, Saviour and Carmen Vassallo, Nathalie Ciappara,Mark-Anthony Spiteri , Terry O'Neil, Kenneth Borg and Manjri Borg Bindra. It is hoped that we will be able to attract more members this year.

What have we done?

One of the first things that happened was that the Egyptian Ambassador contacted Helen. The Society was presented with a book entitled "The Egypt Story". We have made three trips to St. Agatha's museum in Rabat. The curator is Fr. Camilleri, who has dedicated much of his time to this wonderful place. It is full of treasures of all ages including some Egyptian artifacts.

As a group, the decision was made to help him by renovating and restoring the display case which houses these items. the first step has been to catalogue and photograph them. A big thanks goes out to Marta, who has spent a lot of time cataloguing each item in a very professional and logical way. Another big thanks to Anton for his photography. We hope that once this is finished, we can display this in the museum so that visitors have a better understanding of what we see.

We have also contacted the British museum regarding 59 items which were found here in Malta, but which now reside in Britain. We have received a complete breakdown of all the items and their condition. We have also been included by the "Ancient Egypt" magazine, in their database of Societies both in England and overseas.
